Milan 3, Lazio 2: Ecstasy

Sometimes, words are just not enough. In a match where Milan were decimated by injuries, Lazio dominated possession, and had two more shots on goal, we still won. In the most spectacular way. Top of the table. Undefeated in the league since March. A record run of scoring two or more goals in every match. The records go on and on. But the records have nothing on the emotions fans felt when Theo Hernandez scored the winning goal. The only word that comes close to describing it is ecstasy.

Ecstasy

Milan began this match by making a statement. Rebic finally got his first goal this season in the ninth minute with a header from a Calhanoglu corner, 1-0 Milan. Leao faced former Milan backup keeper Reina into a save, and then Rebic was fouled in the box. After a VAR review, Milan were awarded a penalty, which Calhanoglu stepped up and scored it. 2-0 Milan. This was also his first Serie A goal this season.

Finally, Rebic

Gigio went down looking to be injured, but after treatment was able to continue. Which was great, because Lazio were awarded a soft penalty for Kalulu stepping on a foot. After a VAR review, Immobile stepped up to take the penalty, which Gigio saved spectacularly... only to have Luis Alberto tap it in on the rebound. Milan 2, Lazio 1. Both coaches received yellow cards before the end of the half, and Gigio went down again at the whistle after colliding with Theo Hernandez.

Double ecstasy

Lazio came back and Immobile scored in the 59th to equalize, 2-2 all. Theo Hernandez got a yellow card, which will see him suspended for our match against Benevento. Tonali and Muriqi got into a shoving match which saw Muriqi receive a yellow a couple of minutes later for a bad foul on our young Italian midfielder. Calhanoglu took a great shot which Reina saved, and it seemed as if it was destined to end in a draw.

Hero.

Then it happened. In the final minute of stoppage time, Theo Hernandez headed in... you guessed it, another corner. Milan 3, Lazio 2. The stadium erupted with joy, it was so amazing to see. When the final whistle blew, I suppose Lazio were very disappointed, but honestly, I didn't notice them in all of the celebrations. Pioli was jumping in the air, there were hugs everywhere, and just pure, unadulterated bliss. It was the perfect end to 2020. It was ecstasy.
