Sassuolo-Milan Preview: Complacency Hangover

Milan travel to Sassuolo Sunday afternoon to face our Kryptonite team, which are, coincidentally green. And with perfect timing, Berardi, who has scored the most against Milan, will be back from suspension to face us. Coming off of a disappointing stretch where Milan lost four matches after going 24 unbeaten, Milan need to win enough of our final four matches to ensure we play in the Champions League next season. And although the Mapei is where we won our Scudetto four years ago, and we have not lost there since 2016, Milan have. not been playing convincing football. After the scoreless draw with Juventus last week, Milan will need to be wary of a complacency hangover.

Let's win this for Modrić.

Sassuolo come into this match in 11th place, with nothing to really gain and nothing to really lose in terms of placement on the table. They, too, played to a 0-0 draw last week with Fiorentina. For that match, manager Fabio Grosso (yes, that Fabio Grosso,) lined up a 4-3-3 with Turati; Walukeiewicz; Idzes, Muharemović, Garcia; Koné, Matić, Thorsvedt; Volpato, Pinamonti, and Laurienté. He will be missing Pieragonolo, Boloca, Candè, and Bakola to injury. Ironicaly, Grosso is linked to a move to a bigger club this summer, and our own former Abate is linked with the Sassuolo job for next season. Would be amazing to see him in Serie A, he did so well with our Primavera.

Is Grosso destined for bigger and better things?

After a couple matches with no injuries, Allegri is missing Modrić, who was taken out by Locatelli last week and will be out for the rest of the season.Odogu is also reported to have muscle fatigue, which is kind of insane considering he has barely played 10 minutes all season, but I guess the kid goes hard in training? The big question is who will fill the gaping hole left by Modrić, which most believe will be Jashari. Allegri also reportedly tried Nkunku and Leão out as the front two in training, implying that Pulisic will start from the bench. Estupiñan may start ahead of Bartesaghi as well.

Some managers evolve, some just lose their hair.

Every match is crucial now. Everyone has conceded the Scudetto to the AIA Inter now, who could mathematically confirm it Sunday night. But the top four spots are still in question, and Milan must win at least a couple more matches to confirm our own security for the Champions League next season. I'm sure Allegri will continue to make us all want to gouge our eyes out with his anti-football, never taking risks and focusing so much on defense that we even make errors there. But playing that lackluster style cannot continue to cost us points. If we are to qualify, we must not have a complacency hangover.
