A Glimpse of History

On my recent maiden trip to Milano, I set out to do three things: Watch the derby at the San Siro, tour the San Siro, and check out the museum at the San Siro. Well, technically, I also wanted to eat as much gelato as humanly possible in a week, but that actually was not near the priority as the other three things. So you know I made it to the Derby, as painful as it was. And also that I toured the San Siro. So for today, I thought I’d share some of my pics from the museum.

BLING: Upon entering the museum, you are greeted by the bling.
The museum, like the stadium, is shared with our darker half, but there is so much to see on the Milan side, you may not even realize the other side exists, or maybe check it out as an afterthought. The Milan side is bursting at the seams with trophies, jerseys, boots, game balls, art, music, programs, tickets, and more to remember Milan history over the years. Here is just a small sampling of the treasures this museum holds:

A contrast of old and new, one club, two colors

The NT jersey and gloves of Lorenzo Buffon, Milan keeper and uncle to Gigi

A bust of the great Gianni Rivera

Amongst other memorabilia, note the 45 of "Milan Milan" in the foreground

Note the busts of the Flying Dutchmen, celebrating their contributions

The banner commemorates the Scudetto win in 1996 and lists other  trophies

Commemorating the CL victory over Juve in 2003

A signed Sheva jersey and a tribute to Milan's centennial

A ticket from Baresi's Testimonial match in 1997

A tribute to two of the most memorable players of the 2008 season

When you make your Milan pilgrimage, do not forget to make the San Siro museum a must on your "to do" list. Having seen the memorabilia and gaining an appreciation for the culture of AC Milan, it gave me more perspective on what the Milan jersey really means. But even newer fans will see things they are familiar with, and be able to marvel at the rich history that belongs to the Rossoneri.
