Gerald Cardinale: The Deadbeat Dad Has Come Home

Just like a deadbeat father who leaves his family to pursue his own interests, Gerald Cardinale purchased Milan, and for the most part has been absent. But now, like those dads trying to make up for lost time, he has come in and thrown his wallet and his words into Milan, trying to buy our love yet again, after screwing up worse than any owner ever has at Milan. And the worst of it is that now that things are finally moving again, most Milan fans seem to have forgotten what he did to Milan, how he abused and abandoned our family. It is a cautionary tale that fans close their minds off to whenever his wallet opens. Each and every time the deadbeat dad has come home.

Why Allegri Failed at Milan

In case you are new around here, I am not a fan of Massimiliano Allegri. But even though I did not want him to return to Milan last summer, I acknowledged that he should be able to at least get us back to the Champions League. At the very least. Especially with the players we ended up signing and no midweek matches. It should have been something he could have done in his sleep, even with his anti-football tactics. And yet he did not even manage to do that. It's almost inconceivable that he did not, but here is why Allegri failed at Milan.

Allegri was just phoning it in all season.

Why Losing Igli Tare was Milan's Biggest Loss of the Season

Milan suffered a lot of losses this past season. But I would argue that the greatest loss was Sporting Director Igli Tare. Not only was he one of two people in all of management who was qualified and experienced at his job, he was the only one reportedly distraught by way the season ended and not being able to have helped Milan achieve Champions League qualification as the goal. He actually achieved everything he was supposed to, and then some, yet Gerald just threw him out like garbage. His love for Milan, for football, and for our players quietly shone through the entire season and all the behind-the-scenes drama. And looking back, history will show why losing Igli Tare was Milan's biggest loss of the season.

The Purge

After years of suffering under his shocking narcissism and incompetence, the self-purported Milan fan Giorgio Furlani is finally gone. As is Geoffrey Moncada, widely thought to be a great scout, but clearly a horrific technical director. Also gone is Massimiliano Allegri (for the second time,) the "guarantee" for Champions League qualification, who could not even deliver that. And, catching strays, Igli Tare, the Sporting Director who brought Milan record capital gains in player sales last season, and also helped clean up an excessively bloated roster created by Exhibits A and B. After not reaching the Champions League qualification, Gerald Cardinale just came in with a flamethrower and took them all out. Or, as some are calling it, The Purge.

Milan 1, Cagliari 2: How the End Always Is

Allegri was a guarantee of Champions League qualification, they said. Even knowing from before he signed to return to Milan that this was not necessarily true, I had hoped that he had one more 90 minutes left on his corto muso winning ticket. But the poetic justice was just too rich, Cagliari were too hungry to humiliate a team that required no more humiliation, and our players just too exhausted from another season of toxic management interfering with sporting success. And with Cagliari's 2-1 win over Milan at the San Siro on the final matchday, the final appearance for so many of our players, it ended like a toxic relationship that we could see coming, but we maybe just wanted to feel good one more time. Fans were left angry and hurt and despondent and numb, as we have become accustomed to with Gerald Cardinale's Milan. It's how the end always is.

We are all Modrić now... exhausted, hurt, angry, uncertain about the future.
