Poll: How Does Serie A End?

After bickering like a bunch of elderly women at a BINGO game, the Italian government, FIGC, Serie A, and the scientific and technical people have finally all agreed to let Serie A to resume. So now, obviously, it’s time for all of the clubs to start quarreling, too. I will never understand Italy. I am, however, excited to watch Serie A again.

Will anyone lift the Scudetto in this interrupted season?

Podcast: Failing Our Youth

The past few years, Milan have had one of the youngest teams in Europe. And yet, if you look at those players, how many of them have we failed? Looking back, youth development has been non-existent. Now, there is a new youth project rumored on the horizon, even though consistency seems to be the biggest way we have failed our youth in the past. Jesús and I looked back and then forward to talk about how Milan is still failing our youth.

How many young players has Milan failed?

The Summer of Football

The global pandemic that brought the world to its knees has also interrupted our beloved football. As the Bundesliga restarted, and teams from other leagues have begun to return to training, the reality of this interruption is beginning to hit: teams will be playing in summer heat.

Developing Young Players

After surviving Galliani’s Retirement Club™, Milan fans have cried for talented young players at Milan. When De Sciglio was named in the first team in 2011-12, it was the first time a Milan youth player had come to the senior team straight from the youth sector since Paolo Maldini in 1985, a full 26 years in between. What a complete and utter failing of our youth sector. Although many efforts have been made since then to develop young players at Milan, they have largely failed. It could be said that Milan just really doesn’t understand the concept of developing young players.

Third generation Milan... will his development be supported?

Podcast: Hope for Football

Having the Bundesliga come back this weekend brought so much joy and hope to beleaguered football fans. Now it’s time for Serie A to pull together and restart, and frankly, their efforts are quite frustrating. Also frustrating are Milan’s finances, but there is actually some good news there. With football coming back, it was the perfect time for Rui and I to talk about all of this and also reminisce on how it is to become a Milan fan.

Between Truth and Rumors

This year is beyond strange for so many reasons. Serie A would have been wrapping up its final matches this weekend, and instead has just received the okay to return to team training. While the government and sporting agencies are doing their best comedy routines instead of just making things happen, the media has decided to return to normalcy of their own accord, cranking out the rumors faster than COVID-19 masks. This year, however, there is a far greater distance between reality and the clickbait they create. No one really knows what is going to happen, but reality will more likely fall somewhere between the current truth and the rumors.

Will Milan Become Arsenal Italia?

When Gazidis was hired as CEO of Milan, people feared the worst. If current reports become reality, it might actually be even worse than that. The rumors that Maldini will leave the club, making room for Rangnick, mean that there will be nothing left of the Milan that we have known and loved. Worse still, the proposed project looks to re-create the Arsenal model at Milan, with even less money and likely worse football. Will Milan become Arsenal Italia?

Power, Money, Destruction. In that order.

False Start

The Italian government gave Serie A permission to begin training again individually, after publicly bickering amongst themselves for weeks. There is still no official date to begin group training, let alone to resume the season, although those decisions could be made as early as today. However, with all of the players being tested ahead of resuming training and at least three different teams having one or more players testing positive, this week’s return could turn out to be a false start.

The Perfect Defense

In every sport that I have ever watched or played, I have always been drawn to the defense. Goals are beautiful and necessary to win a match, but the perfect tackle, block, or clearance gets my heart racing in the same way as a beautiful goal. In fact, it was four legendary defenders that helped me to fall in love with football, the Italian national team, and Milan in the first place. Four of the best defenders that ever played the game. Most consider them to be the perfect defense.

When Heroes Return

The last time we saw our Milan heroes all together was March 8th, when we lost to Genoa 1-2 at the San Siro, with no fans in attendance. Since that time, we have been mostly locked down in our homes, and tragically deprived of any and all live sports. So, in spite of the ridiculous drama that Italy has created around the return of football, our heroes are finally going to be able to return individually this week to Milanello to be tested and begin to train again.

The Pioli Predicament

Milan has had a tough time with coaches ever since Allegri was finally sacked six years ago. After burning three ex-Milan legends and Brocchi, as well as a couple of other coaches, Pioli has come in and offered wisdom, serenity, and stability. He is a good coach, but has not ever won a Scudetto, let alone a Champions League trophy. While we have been waiting on this interrupted season, talk has turned to who should coach Milan next season. Do we make a change? Or stick with what is working? Would he be enough to bring Milan back to glory? It truly is a Pioli predicament.

He's good, but is he good enough to stay?
